Camp Kernow is seeking an exceptional and highly motivated Activity Instructor to join the team at it’s pioneering children’s off-grid environmental adventure centre near Truro, Cornwall.
About the role:
The Activity Instructor will be responsible for delivering activities to groups of young people including archery, climbing, shelter-building and firelighting/campfire cooking. In addition you will support visiting instructors in specialist activities such as technical tree climbing and assist with tasks involved in the day to day running of camp.

Camp Kernow is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to reconnecting and engaging young people with the natural environment and empowering them to take positive actions towards a more sustainable future. We operate a innovative off-grid environmental adventure centre on a two hundred acre woodland estate near Truro where we host residential camps of up to six days.
The centre employs sustainable systems and technologies including a reed-bed, composting toilets, solar thermal and voltaic panels for pumping, cleaning and heating water from a borehole and a wind turbine to power an office and electric vehicle. The aim is to immerse young people in nature, provide hands-on experience of sustainable living and encourage them to build confidence and resilience for their future.
Ideally you will be coming from an outdoor activity instructor or Forest School trained background with experience and recognised qualifications in leading some of the outlined activities. Candidates will ideally have a strong awareness and understanding of environmental issues and be personally motivated to live more sustainably and share this ethos with visiting children.
Whats on offer
A full time fixed term contract between 15.04.19 and 31.08.19 (37.5hrs per week)
A salary of between £16,800 and £19,500 pro rata depending on experience.
In-house training and opportunities to work towards qualifications/NGB awards.
A tent pitch is available on site if required.

Hours of work are usually 9.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday though some flexibility with days and hours of work may be required. We would also request that paid leave of more than two consecutive days is only taken during the last week of May and August when there are no groups staying at camp.
Candidates are required to be age 18 and over, undergo an enhanced DBS disclosure and must possess the legal right to live and work in the UK.
